JW is a lecturer in chemical engineering at Loughborough University, UK. His research focuses on the production of sustainable chemicals and fuels from biomass and wastes, by integrating biological, thermochemical and catalytic processes to identify and develop optimal conversion pathways. He is program lead for the £4.3m UKRI-funded Interdisciplinary Centre for Circular Chemical Economy and co-founder of Loughborough’s doctoral training center in low-dimensional catalysis, which aims to develop the next generation of catalysts for fuel and fine chemical synthesis from dilute biorefinery feedstocks. He is part of the Biomass & Bioenergy journal editorial board.
