Polestar is Inching Closer to Developing a Climate-Neutral EV

Polestar, the Swedish all-electric car manufacturer that produces the Polestar 2 fastback and Polestar 3 performance SUV, has set an ambitious objective: to develop a climate-neutral car by 2030. To do so, the company must explore and collaborate with suppliers who operate using zero-emission processes; these involve lithium mines without fossil fuels, emissions-free painting facilities, and furnaces without releasing harmful greenhouse gasses.

At the start of 2021, the company issued a proclamation of their mission; yet, Polestar is now pursuing it with determinedvigor by joining forces with prominent organizations. They have partnered with Vitesco Technologies, Schloetter, Autoneum, Stora Enso, TMG Automotive, Granges, Borgstena, and Stena Aluminum.

Polestar is taking a sustainable approach to sourcing the components necessary for its 2030 climate-neutral car goal. Thisincludes utilizing the services of businesses specializing in electrical inverters, electroplating, interior and exterior materials, renewable packaging solutions, biomaterials, wooden construction and paper, coating and textiles, flat rolled aluminium, knit and woven materials, and recycled aluminium. Furthermore, it is actively seeking partnerships with companies that offer raw materials, bio-based chemicals, polymers, electric components, noble gasses, and other base material production. Polestar considers it “critically urgent” to make these connections to achieve its goals.

“My conviction in the success of the Polestar 0 project is reaffirmed every time we meet with new collaborators. It’s clear that there is immense potential to tap into around the globe. Achieving the seemingly impossible is never a one-man show. It is only through collective action that we can achieve the breakthroughs that truly make a difference and find the transformative solutions that go beyond the car industry,” said Hans Pehrson, Head of the Polestar 0 project.
