From Plastic to Purpose – a movement beyond traditional sustainability

The world has moved forward with the sustainability initiative known as the “War on Plastic Pollution.â€' The team at Ahlstrom-Munksjö is taking it a step further – by implementing our “from Plastic to Purposeâ€' movement. “from Plastic to Purposeâ€' goes beyond traditional sustainability. Sustainability defines “sustaining current state.â€' When we say “purposeâ€' we are pushing ourselves, our customers, and the marketplace as a whole to think purposefully towards the future. Improvement and creating a “better worldâ€' versus “sustaining our current environment.â€' How do we do this? Our presentation will review the areas where we are already achieving successful commercialization of plastic-replacement solutions. We will then review where the future capabilities lie. The Ahlstrom-Munksjö team will review our unique approach to innovation known as “Roots to Resultsâ€' as a call to action to the full supply chain. We have the conviction that fiber-based materials represent significant opportunity for more sustainable packaging and recognize there is no straightforward answer in choosing the most sustainable end-of-life scenario. Therefore, our “Roots to Resultsâ€' collaborative innovation concept is key in truly identifying the “purposeâ€' behind plastic replacement solutions. Packaging machine manufacturers ensure the runnabilibity of the fiber-based packaging. Converters and material suppliers work on packaging optimization, and brand owners give the final validation. To expand the use of sustainable food packaging, it is key to involve the complete value chain stakeholders, including the waste-packaging-management chain. Message:
