The PREVENT Waste Alliance serves as a platform for exchange and international cooperation. Organisations from the private sector, academia, civil society and public institutions jointly engage for a circular economy. The PREVENT members contribute to minimising waste, eliminating pollutants and maximising the reutilisation of resources in the economy worldwide. A working group on plastics advocates the conservation of natural resources and the development of a circular economy for plastic in order to stop the pollution of the world’s oceans. Specific topics are plastic waste prevention, take-back and recycling systems for plastic packaging, product design, waste collection approaches involving the informal sector, and EPR as well as plastic credits. In three pilot projects innovative solutions on closing plastic cycles are tested in different local contexts. The PREVENT Waste Alliance was launched in 2019 by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
