Tackling the Microplastics Crisis - Reducing the Environmental Impact of Polyester Clothes

Fashion & Textiles 2022
Every year more than half a million tons of microfibres are released into the world’s oceans simply from washing our clothes. Microplastics have contaminated the entire planet from the summit of Mount Everest to the Mariana Trench. They take hundreds of years to decompose and are accumulating with every passing year. Studies have shown microplastics are now present in human lung tissue, stool, stomachs, blood and placentas.
At Xeros, we’ve spent over 5 years researching, and creating solutions to this problem.
In this talk you will hear from our science team to learn more about fibre fragmentation, and why the science shows this is an issue in natural as well as in synthetic materials. We will share ideas on how to mitigate fibre loss as well as talk through the forthcoming legislation and near and long-term solutions we believe need to be adopted to reduce microfibre pollution.
